Tatiana Cavinato

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the opening of Tatiana Cavinato’s first solo show in São Paulo at Central Gallery of Contemporary Art. From the city of Belo Horizonte, Tatiana’s vibrant paintings fit right into the eclectic, energetic art scene here in the Paulista capital city.

Tatiana’s work is like adult versions of second grade art projects, full of raw imagination, unhindered by the limitations of formal technique or self-restraint. She says that she begins working without references or specific ideas but, rather, lets the energy of the moment lead the way. Once forms begin to emerge, she works to achieve a certain harmony by adding color or form or even nothing at all, raw canvas being present in a number of paintings. Much room is left for the viewer’s imagination to interpret meaning, as objects and people are never quite defined. “Animal Aquarium” is imbibed with a definite sense of fun with a palpable edge. Definitely worth a visit!
